Admissions

At Westoe Crown Primary we aim to welcome children into our caring, safe and community, respecting equality of opportunity for all admissions.

We aim to implement a structured approach to ensure that all our families feel part of our school community and in line with the current L.A. document “Education in South Tyneside – A Guide for Parents”. Click here for South Tyneside Link for School Admissions.

In addition to our close contact between nursery and school, parent/carer and child will be formally invited to school during Summer term prior to Reception admission in order to get to know the class teacher and spend some time becoming familiar with the new learning environment.  Admissions during the year are supported by an individual programme of induction to meet specific needs.

Below is an overview of our admissions oversubscription criteria, however, more detailed information can be found in the Policies section of our website:

Policies & Risk Assessments

Oversubscription Criteria for Admittance

NURSERY:  Nursery provision is non-statutory, therefore our own criteria must apply with regard to the current L.A. policy.  Parents must realise that a place on a waiting list does not guarantee a place in nursery, regardless of the length of time the child’s name has been down, and the nursery criteria will be applied.  Similarly, a place in Westoe Crown Nursery does not guarantee a place in school.  The criteria for school admission applies.

  • Children with diagnosed special educational needs
  • Looked After Children
  • Concurrent sibling link
  • Shortest distance from the centre of the parental home residence to the main entrance

SCHOOL: If there is pressure on places, account will be taken of the following oversubscription criteria, up to the maximum of Westoe Crown Primary’s  capacity for the relevant year group. (see School Education in South Tyneside – Information for Parents).

  • Looked After Children – children accommodated by the L.A.
  • Parent home residence within the defined catchment area of the school.
  • Concurrent sibling link – brother or sister attending the school (to include adoptive siblings, half siblings, step siblings, long-term fostered children residing at the same address).
  • Medical considerations (to be supported by written evidence from a relevant professional practitioner).
  • Shortest distance from parental home residence to main school entrance.

Governors consider arrangements for school admission on an annual basis in consultation with the L.A.
