Eco Council

“The future of life on Earth depends on our ability to take action.”

 David Attenborough

Our Eco team consists of children from Year 2 to Year 6 who are very passionate about helping the environment and the world around us. We meet regularly each half term to carry out work and activities linked to areas such as Biodiversity, Litter, Recycling, Healthy living, Marine, Transport, Energy and Waste, to maintain our Green Flag Award. We have a whole school action plan, driven by the children, which is updated regularly and an eco-code which we work hard to follow. Information about what we do can be found on our eco notice board, near the office/Reception desk.

Our Eco Code

We are an Eco School

Everyone can do their bit to help the planet

Stop travelling by car and walk to school

Team up and litterpick

Only use what you need

Ensure you reduce, reuse and recycle

Care for wildlife

Respect the environment

Oceans matter

We can all make a difference

Nothing is impossible!

We are working towards the renewal of the Eco Schools Green Flag award- our most recent renewal was in 2025 and our first Green Flag was awarded in 2011.

This year we are focusing on the following topics:

  • Energy
  • Waste
  • School Grounds

All classes participate in Living Streets ‘Wow’ Walk to School Challenge. Every day we fill in a travel tracker which shows how we travel to school. If we travel actively (walk, scoot, cycle, park and stride) at least once a week, we receive a badge at the end of the month!

Our fantastic litter team helps keep our school grounds clean and litter free.

We also sponsor a child who lives in Sierra Leone through the charity World Vision. The money we send helps to transform the lives of our sponsor child, her family and her community. In the past we have sponsored children from Malawi and Mozambique.

Our Eco team members are encouraged to share information across the school, ensuring that the wider school community are involved and participate in their own eco projects in lessons such as Science, Literacy and Geography etc.

Some of this Curriculum work has included:

  • Year 1 made a large bug hotel for the KS1 yard.
  • Year 4 children made sea creatures out of plastic bottles and bags to highlight plastic pollution in the sea.
  • Reception did a class assembly linked to marine animals and pollution and the story ‘Somebody swallowed Stanley’ by Sarah Roberts.
  • Year 1 did lots of work linked to bird watching, including writing recounts in Literacy and a class assembly.
  • We had an after school litter picking club involving children and their parents.
  • Workshops led by a beekeeper teaching children about the importance of honeybees and their impact on the environment.
  • Making bird feeders out of recycled materials.
  • Creating new signs for the bins in the yard.
  • All year groups took part in Outdoor Classroom Day.
